I can’t picture the size of my marquee – how do I know it’s right for me?
The correct size of your marquee is fundamental to the success and comfort of your day so it is very important to obtain a scale drawing of your marquee, with all the appropriate details, such as dance floor, tables etc, as soon as possible.
Your marquee company should offer a free and without obligation site visit so that they can take accurate measurements of the garden, check the access and go through your ideas in more detail with you. When you receive the detailed quote, with a scale drawing, you should have the confidence in knowing that what the company has quoted, will work for the space available and the size of marquee is appropriate.
In our experience at Southern Marquees, there have been occasions when we have had our quotes compared with others who in order to look competitive have made the marquee size physically too small to hold the number of guests and required furniture.

If the budget is a concern, there are many areas and aspect of a marquee that can be adjusted to save money where possible, but the logistics of the space for whatever your number of guests is fundamental to the success on the day. Once you have chosen your marquee company. a non-refundable deposit is usually due to secure the booking. Our required deposit is 25% of the quoted total, with the remaining amount only payable once your marquee is finished and you are happy with it.
Many companies ask for the full sum before delivery of the final product but we know that it is not always possible to have final numbers two weeks prior to pitching and this, along with the weather, does have an impact on the size of marquee you end up with. This is why we are happy to leave the decision for the size of marquee and the final specification until the week prior to pitching and if there is any doubt, we will leave it as late as possible. Because we tend to quote for the worst; maximum numbers, awful weather, there are times when the marquee size is reduced.
How do I arrange other suppliers for my event?
The next step is to choose the other elements of your occasion and who you would like to provide them. We have a useful contacts booklet that we send out with every quote that lists everything from caterers, bands, disco, florists, fireworks, vintage cars, loo hire, refrigerated vans and much more. Everyone listed has been highly recommended and as we take no money for listing them you can be sure that they are there on merit.
We will happily spend time talking you through the procedure and once you have chosen your wedding caterer, band and/or disco, we will then liaise with them to make sure that they have the space and electrical supply that is necessary. We will also organise the timing of delivery of each aspect in conjunction with the erecting of your marquee so that everything arrives in plenty of time when needed and not before.
If at any point you have any queries or new thoughts on your day we are always available on the phone and if for example your new ideas require another site visit to make sure they are viable we are more than happy to do that as well.

Can I change my marquee after the booking?
Closer to your big day your ultimate specification will need to be finalised. It is not uncommon for this to be a little different from your original quote and due to the flexible nature of marquees there are many smaller details that can still be changed up to the last minute.
Once many facets of your event have been decided upon it is a good idea to agree on options such as lining colours and table numbers and sizes as soon as possible so that everything can come together smoothly.
At Southern Marquees we always aim to offer as much assistance as possible, and the sooner we can sew up all the details the less you will have to worry about.
Most marquee suppliers will ask for the final payment up to several weeks in advance of your marquee being erected, although at Southern Marquees we don’t ask for final payment until you have the finished marquee.
When does my marquee get built?
The process of erecting your marquee should take place a few days before your get together, leaving plenty of time for viewing, alterations, resolving any unforeseen circumstances and giving you the opportunity to add any final decorations or finishing touches you desire.
Depending on the size of the tent the building process could take a day or two, but to alleviate any stress the timing and logistics should be arranged and agreed upon beforehand so as not to impact too much on any other things going on at the venue.
